Centre to go on an all-out offensive against Bodo militants

New Delhi: Taking the reins of the all-out offensive against Bodo militants in Assam, the NDA government has decided to adopt a two-pronged strategy. It includes flushing out the top leadership of National Democratic Front of Bodoland from their safe havens and arresting or neutralising them with the help of Army and Central security forces.

The second move is launching a diplomatic initiative with the neighbouring countries to ensure that the Bodo militants do not find a safe haven there after the operations in India.

In the past, Ulfa’s backbone was broken after a series of operations by the Army, like Rhino I and Rhino II, which virtually dismantled Ulfa’s core group.

As the first all-out offensive against the NDFB(S) is carried out by security forces in all the Bodoland Autonomous Territorial Districts (BATD) and other areas, New Delhi is already reaching out to neighbouring countries — like Bhutan and Myanmar — for cooperation among the border security forces to stonewall any attempts by the outfit to sneak into their bases in the dense forests along the Indo-Bhutan border.

Union home minister Rajnath Singh has requested external affairs minister Sushma Swaraj to seek help from Bhutan to tackle the banned militant group.
