Hyderabad NIA team to assist Bengaluru blast probe

Hyderabad: The National Investigation Agency’s (NIA) Hyderabad team left for Bengaluru to assist the probe in the blast that killed a woman.

The investigating agencies are looking into absconding SIMI activists, who were involved in several offences across the country, including the Karimnagar bank robbery.

An investigator said, “The IISC suicide attack by Lashkar-e-Tayyaba took place in Bengaluru in 2005, and the Churchgate blast happened on the same day, December 25. We are suspecting the role of SIMI.”

Four SIMI activists, who broke out of the Khandwa jail, are suspected to be involved in the Rs 46 lakh robbery case from the SBI in Choppadandi of Karimnagar in Telangana, where cash was looted at gunpo-int on February 1, 2014.

“Bengaluru police have got some CCTV footage, which they are comparing with that of the fugitives. The fugitives were earlier involved in Uttar Pradesh’s Bijnor blast,” said a police official of the counter intelligence and anti terror force.

The SIMI activists, who broke out of Khandwa jail, were involved in eight offences in the country including Maharashtra, Madhya Pradesh and Bihar.

As Abu Faisal Khan of Mumbai was arrested in December 2013, police are suspecting Shaik Mehboob, 25, Amjad, 25, Mohammed Aslam, 26, Zakir Hussain, 32, all residents of Khandwa, and Mohammed Aijajudden, 30 a resident of Narsinghpur.
