CPM meet next month to discuss tactical political line

Chennai: The state conference of the CPI (M) to be held here from February 16 to 19 will formulate the party’s ‘tactical political’ line in the state, which goes to Assembly polls early next year, said party’s state secretary G. Ramakrishnan.

The conference will take stock of the political situation in the state and formulate a tactical political line for the party, he told reporters here. Party general secretary Prakash Karat and politburo member Sitaram Yechury will attend the conference, he said. The Marxist party contested along with CPI in the Lok Sabha polls after snapping ties with AIADMK in run up to the May 2014 polls.

A senior CPI (M) leader said that the state conference would state’s political situation in detail and adopt resolutions on it.“The party’s electoral tactics will not be discussed in the state conference. Moreover, It is too early to decide on the state assembly polls which will be held in 2016,” the leader said, adding that the decision on any electoral alliance will be taken based on the prevailing political situation.

At present, the CPI (M) and CPI are holding joint movements on people’s issue.Mr Ramakrishnan announced that his party would picket Chennai corporation headquarters, Ripon Buildings, on January 7 against closure of corporation schools. “As many as 1,000 government schools have been closed in the state and 56 corporation schools in the city alone,” he said, adding that schools are closed citing drop in students’ enrolment.

“Drop in enrolment is due to lack of infrastructure like toilets, teachers and labs. The government should provide adequate infrastructure and open new schools,” he said.Criticising the cut in allocation to the health sector by the Centre, he said the BJP government had introduced the national health policy making health as a fundamental right. “The policy appears good. But how are they going to implement it? What is the plan to implement it after cutting budgetary allocation by 20 per cent?” he asked.
