Patients’ demonstration at MGM Hospital in Warangal

Patients held a protest outside MGM Hospital on Thursday alleging that the staff in the emergency ward was non-responsive to accident victims. The developments began with an accident at Kadipikonda on Wednesday midnight.

A car carrying some people from Manchipad village in Jangaon hit a divider at Kadipikonda when the driver dozed off. The injured were rushed to MGM Hospital. However, they alleged that most of the staffers were sleeping, and no one attended to the bleeding patients.

“We had to wait for a long time before we were given treatment. There were women who suffered serious injuries in the accident but the staff did not respond. Some of them were sleeping and there was no doctor. The casualty staff directed us to other places but there was no one. Compounders gave us first aid. We had to run around the hospital to find someone to help us,” said Pallapu Raju, an injured man.

Videos and photos of hospital staff sleeping while patients were crying in pain circulated on WhatsApp. The staff could be seen sleeping in the hospital on beds and benches as a woman sat outside the room bleeding profusely.

One of the videos showed a compounder putting sutures on an injured woman.
MGM Hospital superintendent Dr D. Ramesh told DC that none of the accident victims were critical and everyone was given first aid.

“We received a complaint from some patients that the staff did not attend to them. We also got some videos. Doctors and nurses and other staff are assigned to work 24 hours a day. I have set up a team to probe the allegations. We will check staff records to detect the erring staffers. Action will be taken against those found guilty,” he said.
