Thiruvananthapuram: There was allround condemnation of the attack on CPM general secretary Sitaram Yechury in New Delhi on Wednesday. While the CPM leaders laid the blame on the rightists forces, senior Congress leader A.K. Antony asked his partymen to come out on the streets and protest the attacks.

Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan said the attack was a shocking incident. “Democracy has come under attack,” he said. “A major mishap was averted because of the timely intervention by the CPM office staff. It was a planned attack.” The Sangh Parivar has unleashed fascist forces across the country under the protection of the central government, mr Vijayan said. “The RSS is keen on suppressing those who have taken a stand against the extreme Hindutva approach," the chief minister said.

Senior Congress leader A. K. Antony termed the attack as “primitive and savage”. Mr Antony regretted lamented that the Sangh Parivar has resorted to attack people who are against their ideology. KPCC president M.M. Hassan demanded that stringent action be taken against the guilty. Former chief minister Oommen Chandy said the attack can be seen against secular forces, democracy and independence. “If we don't nip it now, it is going to create more problems. The nation is eagerly awaiting the reaction of the BJP government.” Former KPCC president V. M. Sudheeran said the attack is an encroachment on democratic rights. Opposition leader Ramesh Chennithala said is the people who are diffident of their ideologies who attack others.

BJP state president Kummanam Rajasekharan condemned the attack against Mr Yechury. “The BJP line is that everyone has got the freedom to work,” he said. “The Hindu Sena supporters were peeved with the CPM leadership over their repeated reactions against the Indian Army. It is unfortunate that the CPM is targeting the RSS and BJP."

Pro-Maoists outfit Porattam said the attack is yet another manifestation of the intensification of extreme Hindu communalism in the country. “This is a warning and an attempt to silence all those opposing the Hindutva fascism propounded by RSS,” said P.P. Shantolal, general convener Porattam said.The Janakeeya Manushyavkasa Prasthanam (JMP), a human rights activist group has also condemned the attack against the CPM leader.

Delhi police ignored intel: Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan has said the intelligence wing of Kerala police had warned Delhi police commissioner and joint commissioner who takes care of security on the possible attacks against CPM leaders and its Delhi headquarters AKG Bhavan where the party CPM Politburo was meeting. “The message was conveyed to them before June 5 but was not considered seriously,” he said.
