Hyderabad: Vehicles with more than 10 challans to be seized

Hyderabad: The traffic police has deployed a two-member team to track down vehicles with more than five challans pending against them. So far, they have been able to identify 20 such violators; the worst offender has 127 pending challans. The team will continue its search and detain those vehicles that have over 10 challans pending.

The traffic police has been prompted to initiate action after finding that many violators repeatedly flout traffic norms and subsequently fail to make challan payments. Teams will be deployed by the traffic police, to nab violators. Violators with less than five pending challans will be given the oppurtunity to make online payments.

If a person has more than ten pending challans, then a charge-sheet will be booked against him and vehicle will be seized. He will have to appear in court to retri-eve the vehicle. The offen-ces that people are most commonly charged with include improper parking, speeding, jumping signals, and violating stop lines.

Joint traffic commissioner V. Ravinder said, “If the case being written by an officer for the third time against a vehicle, the owner will be asked to pay the penalty and asked for documents. Any vehicle with more than three cases against it will be considered a top violating vehicle. If a vehicle is caught by enforcement officers on the road and the number of cases pending against it is less than ten, then the owner will be made to make the pending payment via a payment gateway; only then his vehicle will be released.”

He added that if a vehicle was caught with over 10 cases pending, the owner would not be given the opportunity to make the payment online. “Instead, a charge-sheet will be filed and he will be compelled to pay in court. He will have to pay the pending challan amount as well as any additional penalty imposed by the court.”

M Narsing Rao, traffic inspector, said, “We have spotted 20 such violators and a two-member team has been deployed to track them down. Once the violators are found, they will be made to pay via payment gateways for their vehicles to be rele-ased. This step has been taken as a large number of challans are pending payment since 2011.”
