Hyderabad: The Centre informed the Supreme Court that it had formed a high-level committee to study the adverse affects of drugs on students. Senior counsel Manindar Singh appearing before a bench headed by Chief Justice Dipak Misra, submitted that the Union social justice ministry had assigned the work of conducting a national survey on substance abuse to the National Drug Dependence Treatment Centre (NDDTC) under AIIMS. The interim report was expected this month, and final report by March.

The bench was hearing a PIL by Mr Kethireddy Jagadishwar Reddy, president of Telugu Yuva Shakthi, seeking a direction to the Centre to prepare an action plan with regard to creating awareness on the ill-effects narcotics use, take stringent action on suppliers of drugs, and discourage glorification of drugs usage on TV and in films.



Kamminga gets bail:

The Hyderabad High Court on Monday granted conditional bail to Mike Kamminga, the Dutch national arrested by the Special Investigation Team of the prohibition and excise department for allegedly peddling drugs. Justice Shameem Akhter directed Kamminga, to furnish two sureties of Rs 25,000 each from permanent residents of Hyderabad. He said Kamminga should not leave India without permission, and appear before the investigation officer every second Saturday When the judge asked for the FSL report on the seized substance, the prosecutor replied it would take time.
