New Delhi: Struggling to consolidate it’s grip over West Bengal, ahead of 2019 general elections, the BJP intends to kindle Bengal pride by evoking Raja Rammohan Roy, Rabindranath Tagore, Vivekananda and it’s own Syama Prasad Mookerjee among others in the coming weeks.

The campaign being called ‘Naba Bongo (New Bengal)’ is to target intelligenisa and Bengal’s “bhadralok,” who despite repeated attempts have so far steered clear of the saffron brigade’s Hindutva politics.





Interestingly the programme being described by the BJP as “non-political” will be launched on January 28 a day before two by-polls in the state. While one is for a Lok Sabha seat berth in Uluberia the other is for an Assembly seat in Nabopara. BJP’s exercise to create a “new Bengal” will continue till 2019 elections, sources said.

Meanwhile, the Congress and the Left parties alleged that the recent surge in the BJP’s vote share in the state bylections has forced the Trinamul to practise “soft Hindutva” and woo the Hindu voters.

The BJP has accused the state government of ignoring the minorities and asked the Trinamul to publish data on the number of jobs offered to Muslim youths over the last six years.
