Y S Jagan Mohan Reddy reiterates graft-free admin

VIJAYAWADA: Chief Minister Y.S. Jagan Mohan Reddy has asked the officials to expedite work related to all applications that have come under the Spandana Scheme, without keeping them pending, and reiterated the State’s commitment for corruption-free governance.

A total of 45,496 applications have come under the highly successful Spandana progamme between July 1 and July 12 of which 1,904 issues have no financial implications. “Of the total issues raised by citizens, there are 1,116 issues which can be cleared in one week’s time and such issues should be expedited to avoid pendency,” the CM said.

Unless we address the people’s issues within the said time, the government’s credibility will be at stake, the CM told the district collectors and SPs during the review meeting of Spandana held here on Tuesday.

He said that the action taken by the MROs must be assessed by the collectors and joint collectors and a mechanism to this effect must be evolved wherein spot decisions could be taken.

“When the higher officials are supervising the work, MRO-level officials will be effectively working and the top rung revenue officials will be in a position to judge the quality of work and decisions. They should also hold weekly video conferences with subordinates to make the entire exercise more purposeful and meaningful. The entire exercise will be monitored by the Chief Secretary from the Capital,” the Chief Minister said.

“Time and again I have been telling that we must be providing a corruption-free government, and we must come to a position where corruption will be eradicated from the mandal and police station-levels by sending strong signals to that effect,” he said.

The Chief Minister inquired to the collectors of Guntur, Visakhapatnam and East Godavari about the growing cases of malaria and immediate steps to be taken to address the issue.

He also said that a contingency plan on agriculture is being sent by the Agriculture Department which specifies the procurement and distribution of seeds, pesticides and fertilisers and ensures that quality stuff is available in the market on time and in the required quantity. Labs to test the quality of seeds and fertilisers would also be set up in each Assembly constituency.

He also asked the administration to ensure that the Housing Scheme takes off in the right direction by Ugadi and Village volunteers should be helpful in delivering all the welfare schemes to the doorsteps of the citizens. “The unique feature of the housing scheme should be that the beneficiary should be aware of where his or her land exists with clear markings. We have earmarked `8,600 core for this project. There are reports that there could be a possibility of scarcity of sand and the issue should be handled properly,” the CM said.

The improvement in the medical and education sectors should carry the signature of the district collectors which will reflect their hard work and dedication. “All government schools would follow English medium. Telugu will be made a compulsory subject and we will change the curriculum based on the suggestions of the Expert Committee,” the CM said.

“All police stations should have receptionists and people coming to police stations should be received with a smile,” Mr Reddy said.

The Chief Minister appreciated the Kurnool collector for conducting surprise checks on Panyam Ashrama School and for sorting the issues there.
