Focus on rural problems: KT Rama Rao

IT minister K.T. Rama Rao said India’s mindboggling growth on multiple fronts is praiseworthy in its own right. At the same time, basic problems like access to electricity, potable water, toilets and road connectivity continue to haunt people, especially weaker sections of the society in rural areas.

Mr Rama Rao called upon young civil servants to make these problems their number one priority towards finding enduring solutions for them. He was delivering the keynote address at a pre-valedictory function of trainee civil servants at the Dr MCR HRD Institute, organised by the Lal Bahadur Shastri National Academy of Administration, Mussorie, and the Union department of personnel and training.

He said health and education sectors, which have so far neglected concerns of poorer sections, should play their role effectively to empower vulnerable sections of the society and help them rise above the shadows of poverty, ignorance, and ill health. He stressed on use of innovations in administration to ensure growth that is inclusive.

He said, “With a sense of pride, we can say that India, with its young population is a hot a destination for investors from across the globe.”

Mr A.P.V.N. Sharma, adviser to Governor, who was the guest of honour, underlined the need for mid-course training programmes covering officers from different services to ensure that they develop a broader vision and work as one organic whole.

MCR HRD Institute Director General B.P. Acharya said top civil servants, who number 10,000 among two crore employees, have the rare opportunity to bring qualitative change in the lives of people across the country.
