Andhra Pradesh, Telangana spiritual tourism put on hold

Hyderabad: The competition between Telangana and Andhra Pradesh for having their tourism projects approved has hit a roadblock. It will take time to resolve as the Centre is now giving a relook at all existing and new tourism schemes.

While AP is pushing its plan of developing a Buddhist tourism circuit, the Telangana government has sent a proposal for a Ramayana tourism circuit that extends over three states.

“We mentioned it to the tourism minister and wrote to him to consider the Buddhist circuit and to sanction it.

The minister has put these circuits on hold for now and all new and ongoing projects are under reconsideration,” said V. Madhusudhan, executive director of Andhra Pradesh Tourism Development Corporation.

The Telangana proposal starts from Bhadrachalam to Dandakaranya to Chitrakoot in Chhattisgarh and ends at Kishkinda in Karnataka, while the Andhra Pradesh government’s proposals interconnect Vijayawada and Visakhapatnam, including Kalingapatnam, Salihundam, Ramateertham, Shankaram, Tadikonda and Bavikonda, extending to Guntupalli (rock cut caves), Gundavelli, Jaggaiahpet, Amravati, Bhattiprolu, Ghantasala, Chandavaram and Nagarjuna Konda.

The Chebrolu group of temples will be added to this. A budget of Rs 500 crore has been granted by the Centre as part of promoting spiritual tourism across the country for which all the states have sent proposals.
