Bengaluru: Three scientists from the Jawaharlal Nehru Centre for Advanced Scientific Research could bask in glory for discovering potential drugs against the Ebola virus.

Two drug candidates, both lethal against all types of bacteria, even those resistant to multiple drugs, have been shipped to high-containment facilities at Porton Down, Wiltshire, UK, for efficacy tests against the Ebola virus. “They are inexpensive, non-toxic and can be made in three steps. They act on the cell membrane of bacteria, and we think they will act in a similar way against the Ebola virus,” Jayanta Haldar, head of the team, told this newspaper. The others in the team are Chandradhish Ghosh and Mohini Mohan Konai.
