Satnam’s parents say probe not in right direction

Kochi: The parents of Satnam Singh, Hareendra Kumar Singh and Suman Singh, on Monday alleged that the investigation into Satnam’s death under mysterious circumstances by the Crime Branch was not heading in the right direction. Satnam, a law student, was taken into custody for creating disturbances at Mata Amritanandamayi Ashram at Kollam.

He died of alleged torture on August 4, 2012 in custody. The parents alleged that they had not got justice even two years after the demise of Satnam.

They also said that because of the lackadaisical attitude of the state government, a decision had not yet been taken on their plea in the Kerala High Court for a CBI inquiry into his death. The National Human Rights Commission had also not intervened constructively for a CBI inquiry.

The parents said that the government pleader who said that the investigation was not moving in the right direction was removed from the case.

They said the Advocate-General who was appearing in the case was employing delaying tactics. “There were attempts to derail the case at every stage, including post-mortem.

The proceedings in the Thiruvananthapuram sessions court have not yet begun. The Crime Branch has filed case against six people over his death,” they added.
