Dressing for a rainy day

“Pop of colours are to monsoons what soothing pastels are to summers,” explains well-known fashion blogger Satpreet Kaur. She explains, “Indian skin stands out in bright colours so opt for cheerful colours like blue, orange, mustard, pink and red.”
When it comes to the right accessories, Satpreet says, “Hoops are a big rage. Instead of stacking, you can opt for a chunky charm bracelet as your statement piece. Wear single yet bold pieces that will stand out.”

Giving the lowdown on the neon trend, celebrity stylist Rick Roy explains, “You can wear a neon dress and pair it with a pair of white shoes. A neon kurta with white palazzo is another good option. When wearing neon, pair it with a subtle colour and stick to minimal or no accessories.”
Shedding light on the other trends this season, fashion blogger Meenakshi Pamnani says, “One of the major trends this year is the bomber jacket. It will not just protect you from rain but is super stylish too. One can layer it in many ways — with a t-shirt or a shirt. Olive or grey embroidered bomber jackets can be paired with any colour.” To add a bit of shimmer to your wardrobe, Meenakshi also suggests a metallic bomber jacket.

Rick feels transparent jackets and accessories are other big trends. “Transparents are totally in this season with celebrities like Nicki Minaj and Kim Kardashian sporting such jackets and boots. You can also go in for transparent or semi-transparent raincoats. Plastic shoes are in vogue too. However, wear them only when you know for sure that you aren’t going to walk for long or get them dirty.”
Choosing the right fabric is very important. You don’t want your dress to be sticking to you. “Go short in terms of styling as you can avoid blotches. Ditch light-coloured salwars for dark palazzos or leggings. In terms of fabric, avoid anything that can go transparent in case you get wet. Opt for cotton, polyester, lycra or nylon fabrics that dry quickly. You can also remove stains from these easily,” explains Satpreet, adding, “Another monsoon favourite of mine is the scarf. I use it to tie up my hair and cover up in rain in case of any fashion faux pas or to add a pop of colour to my look.”
