A cut above the rest

Sreeja Kamishetty, who is pursuing her Masters at International Institute of Information Technology, Hyderabad, is currently in her final year of a dual degree programme. She is a part of the Machine Learning Lab at IIIT-H, where her research areas include Artificial Intelligence and Intelligent Transportation.

Interestingly, Sreeja is the only student from India who recently got an invitation from Google to be a part of their programme called Get-Ahead in London where they help women to advance in their careers. Held over an eight-week period, each week had a different agenda with workshops and talks on research and the culture at Google.

Google Students Retreat creates a platform to strengthen skills, network with other attendees, engineers and learn about Google products and culture. “It was held at Google’s Kings Cross office in London. It’s a very beautiful office with a view of the city from the top of the building,” shares Sreeja.

Some of the sessions were part of the Code Retreat, where the engineers working at Google explained how to write effective and production ready code with examples and panel discussions.

“The total experience was empowering, I was able to learn a lot of things from the incredible people in tech and networking,” she adds.

Meanwhile, Sreeja is currently working on creating solutions for urban pollution control, which is a traffic assignment algorithm to route vehicles on different lanes based on pollution values. “This idea has been accepted at the Grace Hopper Conference which is the largest gathering of women in the world. Around

20,000 women are expected to attend. I will be travelling to Houston during the last week of September and I am really very excited about the trip,” she concludes.
