Scripting a pretty act

She is the new sensation on the Kannada small screen, winning hearts by portraying Maithili’s character on Colors Kannada’s Seetha Vallabha. Prior to her acting debut she was working in a multi-national company, which she later quit after scripting an accidental shift in her career. In an exclusive interview with Bengaluru Chronicle Supritha S, talks about how she ended up being an artiste though she had started her career an engineer.

“Following my schooling and then pursuing my engineering in electronics and communications from Vidyavardhaka College of Engineering from Mysuru, I started my career as an engineer in the hardware department of a software company but never ever thought I would be soon shifting it entirely to an alien field. Though I always loved dancing and enjoyed being part of extracurricular activities, I was more fascinated about being behind the camera rather than face it as a performer,” says Supritha.

As she gained a lot of knowledge and confidence during her experience in the corporate field, Supritha reveals that she had zero knowledge about entertainment industry especially the small screen but adds that she would usually cook up stories!

Ask her about this talent of concocting stories, Supritha adds, “Apart from dance, I just loved narrating stories to my near and dear ones. Actually, a friend who was aware of my story- telling abilities, asked me to take part in a script writing contest which was being conducted by the Colors Kannada television channel. However, I never attempted to pen my stories. It is always a challenge to transfer imagination onto a piece of paper. I thought I will give it a try, which ultimately changed my destination forever,” she adds.

The actress who went on to participate in the test, was spotted by the channel authorities, who in turn asked her to audition for the serial. As a result Supritha who came to write her story ended up portraying the female lead in the tale webbed around a cute romance drama.

As far as leaving her lucrative job as engineer was concerned, she shares that engineering was never her cup of tea but pursued it as her mother wanted her to do so. “I gained a lot of knowledge and I respect the corporate world but I guess it was my destiny which took me to a different path. I am glad that it happened. I am loving all the attention and appreciation for my work. I must say it is a pretty good feeling as I never expected it in the first place,” she says.

Apart from her love for dance, Supritha has been a sportsperson. She has even been a cricket player and has captained the women’s corporate team in the past. “I am able to pull it off because of the friendly team of Seetha Vallabha and the channel, who relentlessly teach and guide me to perform better. I have been getting a lot of good offers to work in movies too. Right now, I do not want to sail in two boats. As it has been a sudden shift in my career, I am taking my time to learn the art and to go with the flow,” she wraps up.
