CHENNAI: Superstar Rajinikanth on Friday dispelled speculations that he is conducting meetings with fans to discuss his entry into politics and said “The meetings were long due for him”. “No, no. Absolutely there is no politics,” he said responding to a reporters query if there was the likelihood of 'major announcements' at the end of his meetings with fans.

Reacting to a question on the cancellation of his Sri Lankan visit, Rajinikanth cited his statement on the issue. He also said he would have photo sessions with his fans from April 11. To a question on his current venture “2.0”, a sequel to his earlier hit “Enthiran,” Rajinikanth said post-production work was underway. It was slated for a 2017 Diwali release. The sudden announcement about the meeting had triggered speculation on whether he would take the political plunge.

His fans have been appealing to him to join politics and some of the parties are wooing him to join with them. His last meeting with fans was held in 2009, after the success of his film 'Sivaji'. His famous words during the 1996 Assembly elections “Tamil Nadu cannot be saved even by God,” if the AIADMK of Jayalalithaa got voted to power, is said to be a major reason for the AIADMK's rout. He had voiced his support to the DMK-TMC front, which swept the polls.
