The beautiful agents in mufti

Strong characters of special agents and investigating police officers in Indian cinema are always welcome. But it is usually the men who have led the probe on the silver screen. Women in khaki playing khadak roles might have been a common feature, but they are rarely seen in plain clothes or mufti handling investigations as intelligent cops. Now, intelligent beauties cracking complex criminal cases are on the rise in Sandalwood. After Sonu Gowdu in Gultoo, actress Hariprriya plays a special cop in her 25th film Daughter of Parvathamma, and the latest to join the beautiful list of officers is Rashmika Mandanna in her upcoming film Vrithra. Bengaluru Chronicle reports.

“It is no longer just men in khaki, but even women who are doing a significant job when it comes to protecting law and order. There has been an increase in the number of women in the police department, and other departments of the law. Women are being projected as police officers in special roles on the silver screen. The best thing is that the audience is loving these beautiful brains cracking criminal cases. Who wouldn’t want to see a gorgeous lady in action?” says Naveen, a film director.

With new-age filmmakers willing to experiment with various new genres, it has opened a Pandora’s box. “On one side, female characters are showcased as villains/vamps with negative shades and not just glamorous roles. These subjects have increased the prospects of actresses. They are taking the lead. Most importantly, they are not just pretty faces with a love interest in some romantic sequence. They are at the centre of many things. Women-centric films is a welcome change,” says actress Sangeetha.

On playing an investigating officer, Rashmika Mandanna shared her first look in Vrithra which is directed by Gautham Iyer. She plays the role of an investigative officer, and shares, “It is thrilling to hear the khadak word investigative officer. Hoping I’ll do justice to the role.”

Actress Hariprriya during the launch of her film Daughter of Parvathamma starring alongside Sumalatha Ambareesh had revealed that she will be playing a special investigating officer. “It is going to be a special role in my 25th film. A lot of effort has gone behind the looks and preparation to play the officer’s role. More training, solving cases lots action is in store,” she says.

Actress Sonu Gowda, who played a similar role in Gultoo, has also been appreciated for her intelligent act.
