Kiran’s ‘zindagi’ shines on

A pakka south Bengaluru huduga, it’s been a while since he made Mumbai city his home. He’s now been in namma ooru for a while, working on two Kannada projects Onthara Bannagalu and a sci-fi film with the legendary Anant Nag. Actor Kiran Srinivas gets candid with us about his work and more, in this freewheeling chat….

Talking about Onthara Bannagalu, that is up for release on August 17, Kiran reveals, “We’re busy with the promotional activities now. We even went on a bike ride to Mysuru to spread the word about our flick. It’s a film that shows three friends who grew up together Jai, Sri and Ram who decide to go on a road trip. I play Jai, who’s a mature and sensible guy. Things take an interesting turn when we encounter a couple of girls. I could say that the film is loosely based on Zindagi Milegi Na Dobara.”

The other Kannada movie that Kiran has worked on is a science fiction film called Mysore Masala that has an ensemble cast of Anant Nag, Sharmeila Mandre, Prakash Belawadi and Samyukta Hornad. “It’s a real fun film, pushes the envelope and has a really cool storyline. Manohar Joshi, who is the cinematographer for both my films, recommended my name for this project. I play an NRI actor and this role is quite different from Jai. I play a guy who’s constantly seeking approval from other people and is fun and not so serious about life,” he says.

Having moved to Bombay in 2011, the City of Dreams has captured this lad’s heart. “I’m doing a web series by Balaji, directed by Habib Faisal and it will be aired on Alt Balaji. I may also be working on an Amazon original soon,” says the actor, who is also doing a short film called Spring Cleaning along with RJ Siri. “Comedy and action are two genres I’m itching to try. Somehow, people think I don’t have a funny bone, but I think I’m funny! Comedy is something that tests you as an actor, and I want to try it,” adds Kiran.

Now, that he’s been in his ooru for a while, Kiran is jumping at every opportunity to get a taste of the local food that he terribly misses when he is in Mumbai. “Vidyarthi Bhavan, Shivaji Biryani in Banashankari, Brahmins Coffee Bar, Adigas, SLV these are some of my favourite joints. I’m a big foodie with a soft spot for south Indian dishes I love stuff like kharabaath, idly and masala dosa. I was born and raised in south Bengaluru. I think I’ve been going way too many times to these addas, and people there might soon ask me to take a break!” he
quips.
