Filmi stars get telly smart

There is no doubt that television has taken over all forms of entertainment after online has become such a rage. While the small screen is no longer subordinate to the big screen, the two have found new ways to co-exist helping each other’s growth. Once a competitor to the big screen, the television has turned it into a strength for the film industry by boosting the capabilities and helping reach a larger audience across the globe. While publicity has taken new forms, the movie star’s appearances on TV shows have been elevated for a complete telly experience. Kannada television is no alien to such practices, as more and more popular stars from the silver screen are making special appearances on TV shows especially performing in teleserials on special occasions adding an attractive twist to the saga. Recently, actresses such as Shanvi Srivastava, Manvitha Harish, and Harshika Poonacha were guests on different TV shows. Bengaluru Chronicle reports.

“There were times when filmmakers, especially producers who put in a lot of investment in movies, would dislike television as the audience would not make it the theatres to get entertained unless it was their favourite star’s movie or a highly anticipated venture. The hatred got bigger when star actors started making their entry into television by hosting a series of reality shows aired usually on weekends, which hampered the movie business. But, the situation has changed. The same movie makers approach television to boost their publicity and reach the maximum audience,” says producer Naveen Kumar.

He further adds that television is growing at a rapid speed, and is also making it big by adding star attractions, featuring movie stars in guest appearances. “It is a healthy scene to witness both big and small co-exist helping each other’s prospects,” he adds.

Sharing her recent experience performing for a popular teleserial Seetha Vallabha, actress Shanvi Srivastava explains that television is indeed an integral part of all lives. “After smart phones, it is hard to imagine a life with entertainment modes like television. Movies have existed for long, and now with television, it is further boosting the reach. Hence, I find television as a good platform for an artiste and as a whole for the film industry. Also, it is always a different experience to perform for television shows. Moreover, it’s a nice atmosphere to work in,” she adds.

Actress Manvitha Harish who is presently shooting for her upcoming project tentatively titled Love in London, directed by popular filmmaker Nagathihalli Chandrashekar shares that television is indeed a great platform. “Once a movie is released, the audience tends to forget it unless it was a great venture. But, television helps reach our work even beyond places where movies weren’t released in the first place. An entire family sits together and watches the movie. These days, the small screen enjoys a great deal of recognition. When we go out for shows and programmes, the audience first recognises TV actors, which in itself is the evidence of their acclaim on the telly. It was nice performing for the serial Muddulakshmi,” she wraps up. Recently, even Harshika Poonacha made a guest appearance for the serial Sarayu.
