Retired judge makes foray into tinsel town

Former Justice Pugazhendhi is making a foray into the world of cinema and directing his first film, Vedhamanavan. He says that the story is based on a crucial judgement pronounced by him, in which a convict on death row was released on humanitarian grounds, and society’s unwillingness to accept him.

Pugazhendhi has written over 22 novels in English and Tamil, and his recent book about the 2015 Chennai floods has been a huge hit. Talking about this new journey that he is embarking on, he says, “Former Supreme Court judge, Justice Mohan, motivated me to start writing novels. He was the one who encouraged me to take up direction too. The film’s story has been written by me, and it carries an important message for society.”

Manojayanth and model Urvashi Joshi will play the film’s lead pair, while Delhi Ganesh, Benjamin and Bonda Mani will be part of the supporting cast. Music for the film will be composed by Soundaryan.
