BCCI yet to finalise Ravi Shastri contract, may offer coaches 10 per cent annual hike

Mumbai: Although Ravi Shastri is set to get a substantially greater salary than his predecessor Anil Kumble, the newly appointed Team India head coach’s contract is yet to be finalised by the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI).

A meeting was held at the Cricket Center in the Wankhede Stadium on Wednesday, but the BCCI has not yet reached a final decision on the terms of Shastri’s contract, according to a source placed highly within the board.

However it was agreed in principle, that Ravi Shastri will be paid more than his predecessor Kumble, and by extension, his salary will be more than what it was during his time as the Team India director, a year back.

"Shastri and his other support staff's final package will be decided very soon," the source said.

Shastri’s coaching staff – Bharat Arun (bowling coach), R Sridhar (fielding coach) and Sanjay Bangar (assistant coach) – are also set to get a substantial raise. The BCCI also plans to give the coaches a 10 per cent increment after completing a year in their respective roles.

"It has also been decided that the performance of Shastri and Bharat Arun and team's assistant coach Sanjay Bangar will be reviewed after one year,” said the source. “They will also be paid minimum 10 per cent increment.”

The BCCI, in its new contract, will also put a conflict clause and the men who have been chosen to serve the Indian cricket will not be entitled to work anywhere else.

Team India, which leaves for Sri Lanka on Wednesday, will have no manager. However, the new manager is set to be interviewed on Saturday in New Delhi.

The interview for the manager's post is likely to be in the presence of CoA chief Vinod Rai.
