Sunil Gavaskar backs India's T20 heroes Yuzvendra Chahal, Jasprit Bumrah for Tests

New Delhi: India scripted a thrilling six-run victory against New Zealand in the T20 series decider at the Greenfield International Stadium in Thiruvananthapuram to clinch their 8th consecutive bilateral series. After the Men in Blue were restricted to 67-5 by Tim Southee and Ish Sodhi, the India bowlers also brought their A game to the fore.

After Bhuvneshwar Kumar got rid of Martin Guptill in the first over, Jasprit Bumrah and Yuzvendra Chahal came up with fine spells to take away the game from the visitors. Scalping 2 wickets for only 9 runs, Bumrah emerged as the Man-of-the-Match and Man-of-the-Series, while Yuzvendra Chahal, 2-0-8-0, was the most economical bowler.

And following their stellar performances in the shorter formats of the game, former India skipper Sunil Gavaskar now feels the time is ripe to experiment with them in the longest format of the game.

"Both these bowlers have been quite outstanding and I do believe that the way they are bowling they should also be considered for the red ball format which is the Test format. Particularly, I think both of them. Bumrah for example, you know in South Africa, Australia and England he will be quite a handful with the pace and with the accuracy that he has and Chahal as well, the way he has been tossing the ball up to the odd batsman, getting the ball to turn and grip, I think both of them are ready for red ball cricket," Gavaskar was quoted saying by NDTV.
