West Indies player Sunil Ambris gets out hit wicket for 0, creates unwanted record

Wellington: West Indies batsman Sunil Ambris created an unwanted record on Friday by becoming the first batsman to bag golden duck after being dismissed via hit-wicket.

The incident happened in the 30th over. Ambris came into the crease after the dismissal of Shai Hope. The 24-year-old debutant who faced Neil Wagner nudged a short ball from pacer to the on-side. But in doing so, he went deep in his crease as his feet went onto hit the stumps.

Ambris became the first player since Australia’s Steve Waugh in 2003 to be dismissed for a duck via hit-wicket and just the 10th overall in Test history.

Meanwhile West Indies were dismissed for 134 runs in the first innings. New Zealand pacer Neil Wagner had the most impressive figures of 7-39 wickets as West Indies collapsed to 134 runs on day one of the first test.
