Kolkata police ask BCCI for Mohammed Shami's South Africa tour details

Kolkata: Few days after Mohammed Shami was booked under several sections of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) on the basis of a domestic violence complaint filed by his wife Hasin Jahan, it is learnt that the Kolkata police have now confronted the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) seeking further details of Shami and Indian team’s itinerary details of South Africa tour.

The state police has written to the national cricket board to inquire about Virat Kohli and team’s itinerary on their tour of the rainbow nation in January 2018.

Apart from that, they have also asked for additional details about Shami, whether he was travelling with the team following the tour of the Proteas, according to a report in India Today.

The Bengal pacer was a part of the Test and ODI series in the African continent. However, the authorities now want to know whether the 29-year-old was travelling with the team to Dubai once they left the rainbow nation or had he travelled personally at his own cost.

Jahan previously alleged that while the rest of the team returned to India from South Africa, Shami checked in a Dubai hotel with a Pakistani woman on February 18 before returning to India the next day.

The Kolkata police are currently investigating details about the UP-born speedster’s details in Dubai and whether he complied with the guidelines set by the BCCI.

After refusing all claims made against him, the pacer said he is ready to talk the issue out with his wife.

"If this matter can be solved by talking, nothing can be better than that. Only patch up will do good for us and our daughter. If I have to go to Kolkata to solve the matter, I will. I am ready to talk, whenever she wants," Shami told the media.

Shami has been charged under various non-bailable and bailable sections of the IPC, including section 498A, which deals with cruelty to a woman by her husband or his relatives, Section 307 - attempt to murder, Section 323 - punishment for voluntarily causing hurt, Section 376 - rape, Section 506 - criminal intimidation, Section 328 and Section 34.

The fast bowler's wife Hasin Jahan had claimed that Shami was having extra-marital affairs and alleged that he abused her physically and mentally.

Reflecting, Shami said, "Past few days have been quite stressful. I have not eaten properly and the cricket practice has also come to a standstill."

He had earlier refuted all the allegations and said that someone was misleading his wife.

"I am tired of repeating myself again and again. I want all the allegations against me to be investigated thoroughly," Shami said.

Shami and Jahan tied the knot in 2014.
