Mumbai opener Yashasvi Jaiswal on Wednesday became the youngest to score a double hundred in List-A cricket.

The 17-year-old’s rollicking 203 off 154 balls helped Mumbai beat Jharkhand by 38 runs in the Vijay Hazare one-day tournament here. South African Alan Barrow who scored a double ton at the age of 20 years and 273 days held the record before. Jaiswal also joined the likes of Sachin Tendulkar, Rohit Sharma, Virender Sehwag et al. in the elite club of Indians with double tons in List-A.




Jaiswal and Aditya Tare put on 200 runs for the opening wicket. After completing his hundred in 101 balls, Jaiswal stepped on the gas to reach 150 in the next 21 balls. It was a gritty knock as Jaiswal also played through the pain on his wrist. His knock comprised 17 fours and 12 sixes.

Jaiswal, who idolises Sachin Tendulkar and Wasim Jaffer, has faced so many hardships in life before getting picked for the Mumbai senior team.

After moving from UP to Mumbai in order to pursue his passion, Jaiswal lived in a tent and was selling pani pooris to make ends meet.

“It made me mentally strong. The struggle is there even now. Back then, I enjoyed it much like I am doing now. I just play with a lot of heart and I just know one thing: ‘that is to play cricket,” said Jaiswal.

Jaiswal also acknowledged Jaffer’s help in recent improvements.
