Pete Sampras floored by fans in India

Tennis legend Pete Sampras was on his first visit to India and was surprised to see the enthusiasm of crowd and his fan following in the country. The 14-time Grand Slam champion was in the capital for the inaugural IPTL as part of the Indian Aces team.
“I almost gave 100 autographs in the hotel… I had a feeling I will get this kind of reception here. I have travelled all around the world and met a lot of people from India,” said the former World No.1 American.
“I could be in Germany or Los Angeles, I meet Indians and they know tennis, know Wimbledon. They seem to know I did pretty well there. I see it as a great tennis town. I am happy I am here finally,” the 43-year-old added.
Since his retirement in 2003, Sampras has led a very quiet life. With so many past champions taking to coaching as a career option, the introvert and native of California denied any such plans in the coming future.
“I don’t see myself coaching anyone. I am happy playing exhibition matches just once or twice a year. My sons are grown up now and need me more,” Sampras said.
