Cricket fans take Metro ride to reach Uppal
Posted January 19th, 2023, 12:03 PM IST
The Uppal stadium was crowded with thousands of cricket fans before the India-New Zealand ODI match began, but many of them chose to travel by Hyderabad Metro instead of their cars or private vehicles. The Hyderabad Metro Blue Line was packed with blue-jersey clad cricket fans travelling from Miyapur and Gachibowli to the Rajiv Gandhi International Cricket
Stadium in Uppal.
A swarm of cricket enthusiasts were seen at the Habsiguda metro station,
which is the nearest station to the Uppal stadium. They patiently walked the
250 metres to the stadium. Most others were stuck in traffic from CSIR–NGRI
to the stadium, which was cleared by 2.30 pm. Although the match began at
1.30 pm, cricket fans started pouring in as early as 11 am to escape the
throng. Even though HMRL claimed that Corridor 3 (Blue line) trains will run
at a frequency of 5 minutes rather than 7 minutes between the hours of 11 am
and 4 pm and 5 pm and 10 pm, they were unable to deliver that promise at a
few stations.
