It turns out that the world’s oldest tortoise still likes to romp. Aged 186, the tortoise is till having sex.

And it turns out that Jonathan has no trouble finding sexual partners despite being blind.





According to Vet Joe Hollins, the reptile has a tremendous libido, and enjoys having sex especially when the sun is out.

She adds, “The cataracts don’t bother him, he knows his territory.”

Jonathan, the tortoise, who lives on the island of St Helena in the Atlantic, was born in 1832 when William IV was king.

However, his sight has been fading for some time now.

Jonathan spent 26 years having sex with a tortoise called Frederica, until it turned out that Frederica was actually male!

Also, an operation to fix his cataracts was scrapped after being deemed too risky.

The move triggered rumours on the island, which has a population of 4,534, that Jonathan would never find love again.

But passers-by have heard Jonathan making love at his home in the governor’s mansion.
