Yami slams portal for ‘mean’ review

Yami Gautam Dhar is not someone who will take things lying down. The actress who has spent almost a decade in the entertainment industry after debuting with the film Vicky Donor in April 2012 decided to take on the digital news platform The Film Companion (TFC) after they took a dig at her performance in the film Dasvi.

“Yami Gautam is no longer the dead girlfriend in Hindi films, but the combative smile is starting to get repetitive,” smirked Rahul Desai in TFC.

Yami’s smile disappeared and she was in a combative mode, akin to the cop she essayed in the film. “Before I say anything else, I’d like to say that I usually take constructive criticism in my stride. But when a certain platform keeps trying to pull you down consistently, I felt it necessary to speak up about it. My recent films & performances include A Thursday, Bala, Uri etc & yet this is qualified as a ‘review’ of my work! It’s extremely disrespectful! It takes years of hard work for anyone & especially a self-made actor like me to keep proving our mettle again & again with every opportunity. This is what it comes down to from certain reputed portals,” wrote Yami on her social media.

“It’s heartbreaking since I did look up to @FilmCompanion once upon a time, like many of us, but I haven’t sought that for a long time now! I would request you not to ‘review’ my performance henceforth! I’ll find grace in that & it’ll be less painful,” she requested the digital outfit. Soon after, the official handle of TFC tweeted, “Dear Yami. We are sorry you feel that way. Please be assured, that there was no disrespect meant. Thank you.” The Film Companion is run by film critic Anupama Chopra who also happens to be the wife and companion of filmmaker Vinod Chopra who himself had once chased film critic Khalid Mohamed on the streets of Mumbai over the review of his film Parinda.

It can be recalled that The Kashmir Files director Vivek Agnihotri too had taken umbrage over a TFC review of his previous film The Tashkent Files by the same reviewer Rahul Desai when TFC put out a scathing review of the earlier film again when he had posted the trailer of TKF calling it. “A Second-Hand History Lesson In Third-Rate Politics.”

“I will expose her dirty tricks soon along with her two penny, third rate, irrelevant pawn Rahul Desai, the begging parasite who reviews films only to eat free burgers & fries,” thundered Agnihotri.
