Hyderabad: People buying property in gated communities shell out a huge amount for security and privacy such housing enclaves offer. But deviations by builders and the apathy of the concerned officials are making it a nightmare for property owners.

Over 80 property owners of Amulya Homes in GR Reddynagar, Kapra Circle, are fighting for an internal road which is being used by residents of the neighbouring colony. Amulya Homes has 80 units constructed on 140, 160 and 180 sq. yard each, costing from Rs 50 lakh to Rs 80 lakh.

According to a Government Order issued by the the Municipal Administration and Urban Development department, the internal roads in gated colonies, are meant only for the colony and are not public thoroughfares.

Srikanth Koutha, who owns a house in Amulya Homes, said, “While purchasing the house, we were shown a 2010 permit which had no public road in the approved plan. The wall has been demolished by the GHMC. Now, the GHMC officials show a new permit, which was approved in 2012, with a public road.”

S.K. Kumar, another resident, said, “When approached, the chief city planner, agreed that there was no public road in the approved permit. But he cites the problem of the neighbouring New Vasavi Shivsai Colony, saying that the colony’s existing road has been reduced to 10 feet due to encroachments and they have no other alternative road.”

When GHMC assistant commissioner Usha Rani went to inspect the area, she was mobbed by residents of New Vasavi Shivsai Colony who did not allow her to enter, said a resident.
