Police suspects only 1, 2 miscreants behind attack

Vijayawada: Police suspects that only one or two miscreants were behind the attack on farmers’ fields in AP's capital area.

Speaking to this newspaper, Guntur rural superintendent of police P.H.D. Rama Krishna said the modus operandi of the attackers revealed that there were one or two persons.

“The accused to prove that all the fire mishaps were caused by them left certain signs at each spot. In all cases they used drip irrigation pipes to start the fire as they burn slowly, and also had cut the banana trees in the same design. Also supporting poles in banana orchards were targeted at all spots”, Mr Rama Krishna said.

The attackers also broke the glasses of the Isckon temple office and a guesthouse alongside the road by pelting stones, Mr Rama Krishna added.

Clues teams personnel said that there is no fuel-related components found in the ashes.

Villagers late in the night on Sunday found a man setting fields afire and they chased him but failed to catch. He was said to be about 5.5 feet height.

Only after the news spread about each mishap did the other farmers discover that they were not only victims.

Cases were registered at Thullur and Tadepalli police stations. Vijayawada city police examined the affected fields and are investigating. On the other hand villagers of Lingayapalem complained of similar incidents on Monday evening.
