Telangana: Raja Singh does a U-turn on resignation

Hyderabad: Goshamahal BJP MLA Raja Singh, who created a stir by threatening to resign from his Assembly seat on Tuesday, decided not to, reportedly on the advice of party president K. Laxman.

Raja Singh had announced he would quit Assembly in protest against Chief Minister K. Chandrasekhar Rao taking drastic action against bootleggers of Dhoolpet, without rehabilitating them as promised.

“I tried to meet the Chief Minister in the Assembly but could not. I went to his camp office and waited for his appointment for two hours, but CMji was not ready to meet me. I got a call from my party president and I met him and discussed the issue,” he told DC.

Asked about the fate of his resignation, he said for the moment it has been kept on hold. Raja Singh said Dr Laxman told him that the entire party was behind the Dhoolpet issue.

“My party president promised to take a delegation of five MLAs to meet the CM on Wednesday and submit a memorandum to him on the plight of Dhoolpet residents, and request the be provided livelihood,” Raja Singh said.

Earlier, he said CM should hold a meeting with the residents of Dhoolpet. “No one wants to manufacture illicit liquor. All that they want is alternative livelihood that fetches them at least Rs 200 to Rs 300 daily. We have 5 acres of open land in the area where a small scale industry could be established and employment provided,” he explained.
