Bridge linking Metro, Bengaluru rail stations hangs fire

Bengaluru: Though there have been various initiatives to improve the city’s transport system, they all are being developed in isolation, with hardly any coordination.
A prime example is the proposed foot over bridge connecting BMRCL’s city railway metro station and the Krantiveera Sangolli Rayanna (KSR) station. Though it was announced in April 2016, the work has reached only half way mark after a year.
“The foot-over-bridge is a joint effort by BMRCL and South Western Railway. The work was to be over in six months, but it is still incomplete. It would make life easier for the metro commuters who want to go to KSR station,” said Krishna Prasad, member of the Karnataka Railway Vedike. “A passenger from the city metro station, can use the foot over bridge to reach Platform 10, which is connected to Platform 1. If the third entry was completed, people could have exited easily through the parking space,” said Mr Krishna Prasad.
He also mentioned that the foot over bridge between Kempegowda Metro and KSR stations was needed for commuters. All of this would eventually pressure on Gate 1 of the Railway station and prevent public inconvenience.
SWR officials said that the delay was because of the technical problems. Divisional Railway Manager Sanjiv Agarwal said, “There is little space to work. We have to cross a complete yard, connect the new foot over bridge to the existing one. Moving cables took time but now it has been done. Lot of modifications was made to the structure. Work will be completed in 3 to 4 months.”
He clarified that there are no fund issues as the BMRCL was paying for it. The bridge is expected to be ready by July or August and commuters can seamlessly move between Kempegowda metro and KSR stations.
