English medium must in state schools, says Andhra Pradesh government

Vijayawada: To enhance the image of Government schools, the state government wants to make the English language mandatory. It also anticipates an impact on admissions if English medium is not implemented right from primary classes, as every parent expects a minimum of English language to be used in government schools.

Municipal Administration Minister P. Narayana has taken the task seriously and is training the government teachers accordingly. The government is planning to make English mandatory by keeping Telugu language optional.

Many past surveys have shown that parents with low incomes are willing to spend on education for their children, provided they get to learn in the English language. Even the recent MEPMA survey highlighted the same points, that 95 per cent of parents aren’t willing to send kids to government schools where English isn’t given due importance.
