Students stage street plays, flash mob for social cause

Coimbatore: My India My Creation (MIMC) along with college students celebrated the new year serving a noble cause on Sunday with ‘Iyyam Ittu Un’ and ‘Stop Wastage of Food’ through street plays and a flash mob. Around 300 youngsters from different colleges - Sri Krishna Arts and Science College, SNR Sons College, PSG College of Arts and Science, PSG College of Technology, Sree Narayana Guru College, Shri Nehru Maha Vidyalaya College of Arts & Sciences, SNS College of Engineering, Hindusthan College of Arts & Science and RVS College of Engineering and Technology - along with the 12 play artistes from MIMC performed their first session of the street play at Gandhipuram town and central bus stand from 9 to 10 am.

The second session of the play took place at Ukkadam bus stand from 11 to 12 noon and the third session was a flash mob at Fun Mall between 3 and 4 pm. Chakravarthy Karthikeyan, MIMC founder and president said, “The past three years we are focused to rescue children and stop child abuse. So far we have rescued more than 1,000 children involved in begging and working as labourers from Coimbatore, Erode, Tiruppur and Namakkal districts. We observed that most of them are unable to get two square meals a day.

So, we decided to bring the project of ‘Stop Wastage of Food’.”He added, “Lending food to people is alone not charity. Not wasting the food that we have is also a charity. ‘Iyam Ittu Un’ is our journey to stop wastage of food. We will educate people on the importance of not wasting food.”
