Farmers stage dharna, seeks adequate relief for damaged crops

Karimnagar: The farming community took to streets, demanding that the authorities purchase paddy produce which was drenched due to the recent rains, in Manthani and many other parts of the district on Sunday. The rains, caused by low pressure system in the Bay of Bengal, damaged large quantities of paddy. A large number of farmers staged a sit-in on Manthani-Peddapalli road, demanding that authorities buy the damaged paddy produce. Traffic came to a standstill following the protest. Manthani police spoke to the farmers and could persuade them to withdraw the agitation. Later, Peddaplli RDO Srinivas Reddy assured the farmers that they would be compensated.
