Karnataka: Healthcare insurance for all soon

Bengaluru: In the aftermath of an announcement during last legislature session, the state government has decided to implement universal health care insurance scheme at a cost of Rs 1000 crores in one week, according to health and family welfare minister K R Ramesh Kumar.

He told the media here the government would bring various schemes used for health care under one umbrella. The scheme would be listed for discussion at the next meeting of the cabinet and launched immediately with no disparity between BPL or APL card holders.

All government hospitals would be equipped with all facilities, and medicines prescribed by government doctors could be acquired in medical shops with the help of Aadhar card, and at no cost, he added.

He said the government was in the process of equipping all government PHUs and district hospitals with medicines and equipment. Only in some cases, where government hospitals are unable to extend medicine facility, people might have to visit private hospitals, he added.
