No proposal to denotify dead lakes: TB Jayachandra

Bengaluru: Law and Parliamentary Affairs Minister T.B. Jayachandra on Wednesday claimed that there was no proposal before the state government to denotify dead tanks across the state.

Talking to reporters after a meeting on water bodies, chaired by Chief Minister Siddaramaiah here, he said the meeting mainly discussed measures to check encroachment of tanks and steps to revive them. A discussion was also held on bringing all tanks under a single department. Presently, tasks related to tank management are distributed among various departments because of which protecting them has become a big problem.

Bengaluru City Development Minister K.J. George said the meeting did not discuss denotification of tanks. The issues discussed were protection of tanks, desilting and growing forests in areas adjoining tanks.
