Hyderabad: Madhapur restaurant fined for overcharging

Hyderabad: A restaurant at Madhapur. Palamuru Grill restaurant has been fined Rs 10,000 for charging more for water bottle to a customer than the MRP.

The customer Vijay Gopal went to the restaurant on May 17. A bill of Rs 3,391 he was given included Rs 58 for two mineral water bottles and the same for two soft drink bottles. He argued with the manager who claimed, “All are doing it, so we are over charging.”

Legal Metrology, Ranga Reddy district inspected the trading premises of the restaurant on May 25 and registered a case under rule 18(2) of the Legal Metrology following a compliant by Mr Gopal for over charging.

Mr Gopal said, “The restaurant charged Rs 29 for a mineral water bottle while the MRP was Rs 20. They also charged Rs 29 against Rs 20 for the soft drink bottle. When I questioned them the manager said everyone was doing it.

He addëd, I I think the fine should have been Rs 25,000 for violating section 36 of legal metrology act 2009 instead of rules 18(1).”
