Andhra Pradesh: Farmer does last rites for his pet

Vijayawada: A farmer on Sunday performed the last rites for his pet dog ‘Anji’ which died last week, and offered food to 150 locals.

According to locals, Mr Sunkara Gnana Prakasa Rao, a farmer from Ampapuram in Bapulapadu mandal of Krishna district, felt lonely after the marriage of his two daughters and was gifted a dog by his friend Yella Sridhar a resident of Nuzividu, several years agpo. He named it Anji.

Mr Rao and his family grew fond of the dog and began to treat it as a member of the family. On July, Anji, then aged nine, died of a severe heart stroke. Mr Prakasa Rao performed pinda pradanam and ‘ dasa dina karma’ for Anji, and organised the annadanam.
