Hyderabad: Hyderabad city had a heavy spell of rain on Thursday and more rain is expected up to September 30. The heavy downpour on Thursday was accompanied by gale force winds that pulled down a huge tree on Uppal-Warangal highway, disrupting traffic on the eastern side of the city.
The day temperatures dropped drastically in the afternoon as dark clouds covered the city.
Water stagnated at Santhosh Nagar, Tarnaka junction, Osman bagh, Doodbowli Falaknuma, Syndicate Bank-Madha-pur, Chandanagar, Patancheru, RUB Lingampally and Banjara Hills, causing traffic jams.
Slow movement of traffic was also reported at areas like NTR Bhavan, Sagar Society, TV 9 Office, Srinagar colony T-Junction Chutneys, NFCL, Panjagutta flyover, Mona-ppa, and Camp Office towards Begumpet flyover.
Water had collected at the start of the Begumpet, Punjagutta and Prakash nagar flyover.
The south-west monsoon has been active over Telangana in the last 48 hours, with heavy rain occurring in isolated places in Khammam and Warangal districts.
The Indian meteorological department had on Wednesday put out a thunderstorm warning for the state for two more days, as high temperatures and humidity persist. The warning would continue for September 29 and 30. Heavy rains are likely to occur at isolated places in all the districts.
The city is likely to see cloudy skies with one or two spells of rain or thundershowers on Friday.
