Coimbatore: 40 goats run over by speeding truck

Coimbatore: As many as 40 goats were bled to death after a speeding truck ran over a herd near Sulur in suburbs of Coimbatore on Thursday evening.

According to police, Latchumanan, 50, a farmer residing near Sulur- Kalangal had been raising more than 700 goats.

Four of his workers had shepherded around 200 goats to Kerala border, for grazing on Thursday evening.

While nearing Pappampatti Pirivu -Peedampalli Amman temple junction, a speeding truck from Pappampatti with M-Sand load went out of the driver’s control and ran over the herd killing 40 goats on the spot and injuring around 50 other goats.

Seeing the gory incident, local villagers gathered at the spot, besieged the truck and staged a road-roko demanding compensation for the lost goats. On receiving information from members of the public, Sulur police rushed to the spot and pacified the protestors, after which the nearly half-an-hour road-roko was withdrawn on police assurance of necessary action.
