Kurnool: Public suffer as ATMs go dry

KURNOOL: The problem of Automated Teller Machines (ATM ) running out of cash continues to trouble residents of Kurnool. With no cash loaded, several ATMs are not dispensing cash. In the market, though digital transactions have been gaining prominence, cash is still the preferred way to square off transactions between people.

A bank manager at C Camp admitted that for the first time, they are witnessing insufficient amount of cash being injected into the system. The manager said that they have stopped loading ATM kiosk with cash because of the shortage. Asked about the precarious situation prevailing for cash in hand, the manager said people are not depositing money into banks but, instead, withdrawing their deposits, adding that people prefer to keep cash in their homes.

K.J. Reddy, managing director of Ragamayuri Builders, said that customers were hoarding cash fearing a repeat of the early demonetisation days. ATM machines of a number of nationalised banks like State Bank, Andhra Bank, Syndicate Bank, Canara Bank, Indian Bank and IDBI Bank have been running out of cash with sign boards of 'out of order' being put out at several points of time in the past week.

One customer said that he was using ATMs only to check the balance. The bank manager of a nationalised bank said that customers, for the last three months, have not been depositing money in banks. Instead they are liquidating their deposits.
