CHENNAI: Independent MLA TTV Dhinakaran on Thursday staged a walkout from the Assembly after Speaker P. Dhanapal refused to allot him time to speak on the motion of thanks to Governor’s address.
Dhinakaran had on Wednesday sought time to speak during the motion of thanks on Governor’s address on Thursday. Announcing his decision on Thursday, Dhanapal said since leaders of legislative parties have been given opportunity to speak on Thursday, there was no possibility of allotting time for the independent legislator.
“He will be given chance to speak next time,” Dhanapal told the Assembly. At this, Dhinakaran staged a walkout from the Assembly and told reporters that the Speaker was “biased” and he does not want him to speak on the floor of the House.
“I was planning to raise issues faced by people of RK Nagar if I was given a chance. I wanted to talk about 51,000 houses for the people in the constituency but the Speaker did not allow me to speak,” he told reporters.
To a question on reports that MLAs supporting him had proposed the name of school education minister K. A. Sengottaiyan for the Chief Minister replacing Edappadi K. Palaniswami during their meeting with then Governor CH Vidyasagar Rao in August, he replied in the negative.
“There was no such proposal. The MLAs submitted letter of withdrawal of their support to the Chief Minister during their meeting with the Governor. They did not propose any name,” he said.
