Kurnool: The demand for setting up of High Court intensifies with advocates across the Kurnool district continued relay hunger strike on Tuesday. About 800 advocates practicing at Hyderabad High Court have extended their support to the cause of Kurnool advocates. It is learnt that a senior advocate hailing from Rayalaseema had convened a meeting to step up pressure on the government. About 100 advocates took part in the meeting, a source who attended the meet said. Judges, High Court Justices serving and retired were also said to be sympathetic of the demand for setting up of High Court at Kurnool.

A designated senior High Court advocate hailing from Rayalaseema districts said that as most of the advocates practicing in Hyderabad prefer Kurnool to Amaravati. Logistics wise it just takes three hours to attend High Court at Kurnool and go back to Hyderabad. Whereas, if it is set up at Amaravati, Hyderabad advocates have to shift to that area. Justices too prefer Kurnool, he added.





The advocates have abstained from Court work for a week till January 29. A silent rally was taken out on Tuesday from District Court building where about 300 advocates participated , said V Naga Lakshmi, president ,Kurnool Bar Association.

Advocate Naga Lakshmi said that they have decided to stage a dharna at Amaravati to highlight the legitimate cause of Rayalaseema people.They were also planning to bring pressure on Deputy Chief Minister K.E. Krishna Murthy, tourism minister Bhuma Akhila Priya and AP Legislative Council Chairman N.M.D. Farooq to fight for the cause of getting High Court to Kurnool.

An advocate said that phase two of agitation would be more intense and elected representatives would be targeted to pressurise the CM.
