Hyderabad: Boyfriend suspected of killing girl, burning body

Hyderabad: The charred body of a woman was found on the banks of SRSP canal in Suryapet district on Monday. Police said that the woman, identified as Akarapu Annapurna, 20, might have been killed by her boyfriend who later set her body ablaze.

Annapurna had gone missing four days ago, but the family had not lodged a missing person complaint. Police identified the body with the help of an identity card found near the spot and informed her family members.

DSP Suryapet M. Nageshwar Rao said that a hunt was launched to nab the accused. Annapurna’s father was convicted in the past for killing his elder son-in-law and is currently serving his term in jail.

Annapurna, the fourth child of parents Adimayya and Lakshmamma, was learning computers at Tirumalagiri. A few months ago, she fell in love with a man. The two used to go out frequently.

Police said they met near the Sri Ram Sagar project canal in Vardhamanukota village last Friday. An argument broke out between them over a petty issue. During the scuffle, her boyfriend pushed her. She fell on a stone and suffered a head injury. The man left her and fled the spot when she started bleeding profusely.

Later, he returned to the spot in the evening to check if she was there. On seeing her still lying there, he went to the village and bought a can of petrol and set her on fire.

Her body was spotted by shepherds on Monday. Police booked a murder case and started an investigation.
