Hyderabad: Police has asked online shopping sites not to sell or deliver sharp-edged items or weapons as that is a cognisable offence under the Arms Act, DCP of Commissioner’s Task Force said. The statement was issued on Monday after the arrest of 12 persons in simultaneous raids in the city. The accused had bought weapons like swords, daggers and long knives online, took photographs posing with them and posted them on social media to create panic among the public.
Police said that 10 swords, two daggers and one long knife were seized from them. They had purchased the weapons online. The accused were handed over to the police stations concerned along with seized weapons for necessary legal action under the Arms Act.
DCP P. Radhakishan Rao appealed to people not to buy prohibited sharp-edges weapons from online portals and not post photos with them on Facebook, WhatsApp etc.
Possession of such arms was a cognisable offence, he said. Web portals like Snapdeal, Amazon and Flipkart were also asked not to sell or deliver the prohibited items.
