HYDERABAD: The Hyderabad police apprehended one notorious chain snatcher who was been long wanted for his involvement in chain snatching cases. The accused was identified as Mir Ayyan Ali Khan, 29, of Talabkatta. The other two members of the gang namely Harendra Singh (age not known), of Uttar Pradesh and Syed Ahmed Ali, 27, of Talabkatta are absconding.
According to the police, Khan bought one TVS Apache motorcycle with the money he got after disposing the gold chains he had snatched earlier. After affixing a fake number plate, he committed 11 more chain-snatching cases under the various police station limits. His modus operandi was such that after committing the crime, he would park his motorcycle in a far-off place and then head home so that the bike could never be traced to him. He also took every measure possible to ensure that his identity is not revealed through CCTV footages. However, with the help of CCTV footages the police detected the frequently visited places of the accused and zeroed on him there, the official explained.
During the course of investigation it was found out that, the accused hailed from Jalgaon, Maharashtra. The accused had migrated to Hyderabad in the year 2010. In 2011, he was caught in a theft case and was remanded at Chanchalguda jail, where he met Syed Ahmed Ali.
After coming out from jail, the two committed an automobile theft under the Bowenpally police station limits.
The accused came in touch with Harinder Singh in the year 2014. Together, the trio committed 11 chain snatching cases. The police seized 311 grams of gold and `1.25 lakh cash, two two-wheelers and one Honda Passion motorbike from the accused.
