Appoint CVC after nod: Supreme Court to Centre

New delhi: The Supreme Court on Wednesday directed the Centre to take its permission before appointing the central vigilance commissioner and vigilance commissioner.

The top court asked the Centre to form a panel of 15 names for consideration for the CVC post and submit it in a sealed envelope by January 15.

This comes following a PIL filed in the SC alleging that the appointments were not being done in a transparent manner. Allowing the government to continue with the selection process, a bench comprising Chief Justice H.L. Dattu and Justice Madan B. Lokur sought details about the procedure.

During the hearing, Attorney-General Mukul Rohatgi informed the court that he will be filing the relevant records pertaining to the selection process in a sealed cover.

The bench was hearing a PIL filed by an NGO.
